The
Vendor's Faire & Rodeo is November 2nd and games are
needed for the Recreation Olympics. If your city would
like to host a game at the Vendor's Faire please contact
Donnie Moore and let me know what type of
game/competition. (Closest to the pin, paintball & a
home run derby are already taken.)

The City of Selma is currently
looking at Succession Planning and how we will deal with the
repercussions as mid and upper management begin to retire
over the next 5 years. If you have any ideas or programs
that your agency is looking into or currently implementing
please feel free to send them my way. Thank you! |

At the board meeting in August
it was suggested and agreed upon to offer a
General Scholarship to our CPRS District VII
members. The General Scholarship is designed to allow
members the opportunity and ability to research and submit a
training they feel would meet their individual needs. The
board agreed that the scholarship would be a maximum of
$600.00 awarded. The training does need to be related to our
profession of Parks and Recreation.
Attached is the application
for the scholarship which is due
November 30, 2007. I
would encourage all members to evaluate their training needs
and take advantage of this opportunity. (Examples:
Playground certification, Certified Pool Operator, CPRS
Annual Conference and much more!) |

CPRS is offering a new service
to its new and renewing members as of September 1, 2007. You
can now assess how your leadership style compares and
contrasts to high performing park and recreation leaders
across California by taking the CPRS/People Assets
Leadership profile. The assessment is absolutely free to you
as a member of CPRS. The nonmember cost of this assessment
is $40!
The profile assesses your
communications, teambuilding, delegation and conflict
resolution skills and can help you structure a
results-oriented professional development plan for you. You
can take the profile at
http://www.peopleassets.net/cprs/
(Use your CPRS Membership
ID#) |

Has your City allowed non profit groups (ex. Packer
Football or Little League) to use your park, field,
or facility at no cost and allowed them to charge an
entry fee for their own profits?
Our department would appreciate any feedback if you
have experienced this type of situation and how you
approached it. Please send any responses to
joel.glick@reedley.com
Thank you in advance for your input.

e=mc2 That is nothing
compared to this idea from Mikal Kirchner: the "Don't
Have to Show Up Fundraiser". We don't want
your time we just want your money. There are
approximately 175 District VII members and if each gave just
$5 would equal $875 that would go toward scholarships,
training opportunities, etc. Each donation of $5
increments will give the donor one ticket for a drawing.
How does $100 towards an upscale dinner sound? You
don't need to be present to win. You also don't need
to be a member to contribute. Just give us your money
one way or another! :)

The City of Reedley is researching
recent Pool Projects which Cities have been involved
with in the past 5 years. This would include any
joint projects. I would like to speak with you and
get some basic information regarding the design and
cost.
If
your City has been involved with this type of
project please e-mail me for further communication.
Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Below I have attached links to sites that specifically
address Cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is the new form of
bulling in adolescents and the trend is growing
exponentially. If you are unaware of Cyberbullying or of
ways to prevent it, please take a couple of minutes and
begin to read up on it via one of these websites.
Although the camp industry is not one that sees a lot of
this kind of stuff, since we do not allow access to the
web and technology at camp, it is something that is
being brought into camp via other avenues. Long and
detailed as they are I will not bore you, but I do know
many of our children, when returning home to their
communities, are being bullied left and right.
Many of you I know are already aware and have polices
and educational pieces in place, but if you have not
visited one of these sites yet, take a minute as it will
be worth your time. Hope you find this material as
helpful as I did.

I
just received this also. Some good information that some of
you I amsure have seen or picked up at the CPRS Conference.
Of interest, the Legislative Meeting Schedule for 07-08,
Legislation Priorities and something you might want to
pass on to your local Senator or Assemblyman, is the
2005-06 Scorecard for how they voted for those bills
that were either supported or opposed by CPRS. (For those of
you near Selma, you will be happy to know that Senator
Florez and Assemblyman Aramubula had a 100% scoring of
supporting CPRS supported legislation.) |

Mark your
calendar & join the next conference call:
CALL IN # AND ACCESS #: 712 432-2222 code 6652777
(Any member may participate in
the meeting and join the call from the comforts of your
office, car or home…)
September 10, 2007 from 2 pm – 3:30 pm
For those of you interested, please read through the
attachment for an update on legislation that CPRS continues
to monitor. I called last month and listened in. I
understand the call averages not much more than $3.00 to
$5.00 for the call. I guess I will judge that by reading
our next telephone bill to verify.
